The problem
Searching “matcha near me” on Google Maps surfaces café ratings that reflect the entire restaurant — the ambiance, the service, every dish on the menu — not the matcha itself. The same is true for meatball subs, channa masala, drunken noodles, and everything else you actually care about. There is no good way to find the best version of a specific dish near you, because ratings are aggregated at the restaurant level.
What we’re building
Crave is a mobile food journal that indexes restaurant menus and crowdsources dish-level reviews. The core unit of value is the item review — not the restaurant rating. Our promise: be the best way to find the best matcha, meatball sub, or drunken noodles near you.
In an era where restaurants are incredibly well indexed, it’s time their menus are too.
How it works
- Log visits — pick a restaurant, choose dine-in, takeout, or delivery, and rate what you ordered while it’s still fresh.
- Rate dishes, not just places — every item gets its own score, optional price, modifications, notes, and photos.
- Keep a journal — search your own history by meal, restaurant, or dish; filter by cuisine, category, or distance; sort by date, score, or price.
- Grow the catalog together — suggest new restaurants, dishes, and modifications as you log. The menu database builds organically from real visits.
V0 beta
The current beta is scoped to Park Slope, Brooklyn. We’re validating the review logging and personal search experience before opening to a wider audience. Crave is available on iPhone via TestFlight.
